Apple-Themed Activities for Kids

The season for all things apple! As the air gets crisp and we welcome the cozy vibes of fall, there’s no better time to dive into some fun, educational, and hands on activities centered around this favorite autumn fruit.

Whether you’re a parent looking for a weekend project or a teacher planning your next classroom theme, I’ve got you covered with three delightful apple themed crafts that are perfect for little learners. Plus, I’m sharing some free printables to make your prep work a breeze!

Activity 1: Toilet Paper Roll Apple Tree Craft

Let’s start with a classic craft that turns simple recycled materials into a charming 3D apple tree. It’s a wonderful way to work on fine motor skills and create a cute piece of seasonal decor.

What You’ll Need:

  • An empty toilet paper roll
  • Green popsicle sticks (about 5-6 per tree)
  • Small red pom-poms
  • Craft glue or a hot glue gun

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Create the Tree Top: Arrange your green popsicle sticks in a fan shape to look like the leafy top of a tree. Glue them together where they overlap at the base.
  2. Attach the Trunk: The toilet paper roll will be your tree trunk. Apply a line of glue to the top edge of the roll and press your popsicle stick tree top firmly onto it.
  3. Add the Apples: Now for the fun part! Dab small dots of glue onto the green popsicle sticks and let your little one place the red pom-poms on them as “apples.”

Your adorable apple tree is complete! Make a few to create your very own mini apple orchard.

Activity 2: Apple Life Cycle Cut and Paste

This activity is a fantastic way to introduce the science behind how an apple grows, from a tiny seed to a delicious fruit. It’s a simple yet effective learning tool that kids will love.

What You’ll Need:

  • Free Apple Life Cycle Printable (download below!)
  • Scissors
  • A glue stick
  • A pencil and eraser

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Download and Print: Start by grabbing your free printable worksheet.
  2. Cut It Out: Have your child carefully cut out the small picture squares at the bottom of the page, which show the different stages of the apple’s life.
  3. Learn and Paste: Talk through each stage of the life cycle together: the seed grows into a sprout, which becomes a sapling, then a full tree. The tree grows blossoms, which turn into an apple.
  4. Complete the Cycle: Help your child glue each picture into the correct numbered box on the worksheet to complete the apple life cycle!

Activity 3: “A is for Apple” Dot Painting

Dot painting is a fantastic pre-writing activity that helps with hand-eye coordination and fine motor control. This “A is for Apple” worksheet makes learning the alphabet fun and colorful!

What You’ll Need:

  • Free “A is for Apple” Printable (download below!)
  • Washable craft paint in apple colors (red, green, yellow, brown)
  • Q-tips or cotton swabs
  • Small cups or a paint palette

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Get Ready to Paint: Download and print the worksheet. Pour small amounts of your different colored paints into separate cups.
  2. Dip and Dot: Give your child a Q-tip for each color. Encourage them to dip the cotton swab into the paint and then press it into the small circles on the printable.
  3. Fill It In: Let them have fun filling in the apple and the letters “Aa” with colorful dots. It’s a perfect, low-mess way to get creative and practice letter recognition at the same time!

I hope you and your little ones enjoy these fun and educational apple activities as much as we do. Happy crafting and happy fall
