3 Beautiful and Easy Fall Leaf Crafts for Kids

Hello, fellow nature lovers and crafters! There is something so wonderfully magical about autumn, and one of my favorite ways to celebrate the season is by creating beautiful art using the treasures we find right outside our door.

Today, I’m thrilled to share three of my favorite fall leaf crafts that are perfect for connecting with nature, sparking creativity, and making lasting memories with your little ones. Whether you’re making a whimsical crown, creating a fun character, or crafting a sensory masterpiece, these projects are sure to delight.

1. The Simple and Magical Leaf Crown

There’s no better way to feel like royalty of the forest than by crafting your very own crown from colorful autumn leaves. This classic nature craft requires no glue or string just the leaves themselves!

What You’ll Need:

  • A collection of fresh, pliable autumn leaves with stems (maple leaves work beautifully)
  • Optional: A small, sharp twig to help poke holes

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Go on a Leaf Hunt: Start with a nature walk to gather a collection of your favorite colorful leaves. Look for leaves that are still soft and flexible, as dry, crunchy ones will break.

Start Weaving: Take your first leaf and fold it in half. Carefully poke a small hole through both layers with the stem of another leaf or a small twig.

Thread and Repeat: Thread the stem of a second leaf through the hole you just made, pulling it through until the leaf is snug against the first one. Now, fold this second leaf in half and poke a hole through it.

Continue the Chain: Keep repeating this process threading a new leaf’s stem through the previous one to create a long, beautiful chain of leaves.

Finish Your Crown: Once your leaf chain is long enough to fit around your head, simply connect the ends by tucking the stem of the first leaf into the last one. Your magical leaf crown is ready to wear!

2. Whimsical Leaf Animal Faces

This craft is a fantastic way to let your imagination run wild! By adding just a few simple details, you can transform an ordinary leaf into a character with a ton of personality.

What You’ll Need:

  • Dried, pressed leaves (maple or sycamore leaves work great for their shape)
  • A black marker
  • White paper and a glue stick (or white paint pen)
  • Scissors

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare Your Leaf: Start with a clean, dry leaf. The natural shape of a maple leaf is perfect for creating a wolf or fox face.

Add the Details: Use your black marker to draw a nose at the bottom tip of the leaf.

Create the Eyes: Cut out two small eye shapes from white paper and glue them onto the leaf. Use your marker to draw in pupils and eyebrows to give your character a unique expression happy, grumpy, sleepy, or surprised!

Add Ears: You can use the top points of the leaf as natural ears or cut and fold the top corners to create more defined, pointy ears. Create a whole pack of these leafy creatures for a fun display!

    3. Colorful Corn Mosaic Tree

This activity is a fantastic sensory experience that combines art with tactile play. The vibrant colors of the corn kernels look just like a canopy of autumn leaves!

    What You’ll Need:

    • Uncooked popcorn kernels
    • Washable paint in fall colors (red, yellow, green, etc.)
    • Resealable plastic bags
    • A large piece of paper or cardstock
    • Black construction paper
    • Craft glue

    Step-by-Step Instructions:

Color Your Corn: This part is so much fun! Divide your popcorn kernels into several plastic bags. Add a squirt of paint to each bag, seal it, and let your little one shake, shake, shake until all the kernels are coated in color. Spread the colored corn on a tray to dry completely.

Create Your Tree: Cut a tree trunk and branches silhouette from your black construction paper and glue it onto your background paper.

Make Your Mosaic: Apply a generous amount of glue to the branches of your paper tree. Now, let your child have fun sprinkling and pressing the colorful corn kernels onto the glue to create a beautiful, textured mosaic of “leaves.”

I hope these ideas inspire you to get outside, gather some natural treasures, and create something beautiful this season. Happy crafting
