Hello, fellow nature lovers and crafters! There’s something truly special about autumn the crisp air, the cozy sweaters, and of course, the breathtaking colors of the falling leaves. One of my favorite ways to celebrate this beautiful season is by gathering these natural treasures and turning them into whimsical works of art.
Today, I’m excited to share three of my favorite fall leaf crafts that are perfect for sparking imagination and creating magical memories with your little ones. From sweet woodland creatures to a mesmerizing autumn “snow” globe, these projects are sure to delight.
1. Adorable Autumn Leaf Animals
Get ready to transform simple leaves into a cast of charming characters! This craft is incredibly easy and allows for endless creativity. You can make butterflies, owls, or any other creature you can imagine.
What You’ll Need:
- A collection of colorful autumn leaves (Ginkgo leaves are perfect for butterflies!)
- Scissors, glue, and a black marker for details
- A small twig or branch for the owl’s perch
How to Make a Leaf Butterfly:
Find Your Wings: Go on a nature walk and find two beautiful, fan shaped ginkgo leaves.

Create the Body: Take the stem of one leaf and carefully tie a small knot in the middle. Gently pull the knot tight to cinch the center of the leaf, creating the butterfly’s body.

Create antennae of butterflies: To make the butterflies’ antennae, you should separate the stem of the leaf in the middle, and they will form the shape of antennae.
How to Make a Leaf Owl:
Shape the Body: Start with a heart shaped or rounded leaf. Trim the top to create two pointy “ear” tufts.

Add the Face: Cut two small white circles for the eyes and glue them on. Use a black marker to draw in the pupils and a small orange triangle for the beak.

Create a Scene: Glue your finished owl onto a piece of paper and add a small twig underneath it for a branch. You can even add a paper moon and stars to create a lovely nighttime scene!
2. Autumn Animal Leaf Art (with Free Printables!)
This next craft combines the beauty of nature with adorable illustrated characters. It’s a wonderful way to practice fine motor skills and create a stunning piece of mixed-media art.

What You’ll Need:
- Free Printable Animal Templates (I’ll share a link for you to grab your own!)
- A collection of small, colorful autumn leaves
- Watercolors or markers to color the animals
- Scissors and a glue stick
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Print and Color: Start by printing out the free templates of the cute hedgehog and squirrel. Let your little one have fun coloring them in with warm, autumnal watercolors or markers.
Go on a Leaf Hunt: While the paint dries, head outside to collect a variety of small, colorful leaves.

Create the Fur and Spines: Once your animal cutouts are ready, it’s time to add their leafy coats! Apply glue to the back of the hedgehog and the tail of the squirrel.

Complete the Animal Leaf Art: Carefully arrange and stick the real leaves onto the glued areas. Overlapping the leaves will create a beautiful, textured, and three dimensional effect. Once the back of the hedgehog and the tail of the squirrel are complete, you need to attach the hedgehog and squirrel to them.

3. Magical Autumn “Snow” Globe
Capture the swirling beauty of fall in a jar with this mesmerizing autumn themed sensory bottle. It’s a wonderful calming tool and a beautiful piece of seasonal decor.
What You’ll Need:
- A clean glass jar with a tight fitting lid (a mason jar works perfectly)
- A small figurine, like a miniature tree
- Hot glue gun
- Water
- Clear glue or glycerin (to make the glitter fall slowly)
- Autumn-themed glitter, small beads, and tiny faux leaves
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Create Your Scene: Use a hot glue gun to attach your miniature tree or other small figurine to the inside of the jar’s lid.

Fill Your Jar: Fill the jar with your collection of autumn treasures add the glitter, beads, and tiny leaves.

Add the Liquid: Fill the jar almost to the top with water. Add a generous squirt of clear glue or a few drops of glycerin. This will thicken the water and make the glitter swirl and fall more slowly and magically.

Seal It Up: Screw the lid on tightly (you can add a ring of hot glue to the inside of the lid for a permanent, leak-proof seal).
Now, turn it upside down and watch the beautiful autumn confetti swirl and dance around your tiny tree. It’s a perfect, peaceful way to enjoy the magic of the season.
I hope these ideas inspire you to get outside and create something beautiful. Happy crafting
