Today, nerf guns have become one of the most famous toys among children and are loved by people of all age groups. While these toys are generally used to play in an open area or indoor dartboard system, some people may want to carry them with them while they are travelling from one place to another.

It is easier for people to carry a Nerf gun while travelling from their vehicles, like cars or scooters. Still, it becomes a difficult task to get permission to take a Nerf gun with you on a flight or other transportation medium.

So today, we are going to discuss the terms and conditions that need to be fulfilled for taking a Nerf gun with yourself on a plane.

Are Nerf Guns Allowed on Planes

Although toys like Nerf guns and other battery guns are not at all dangerous, they still resemble actual guns or military arms. Therefore, there are certain terms and conditions to carry these with you on a plane.

You can take a Nerf gun with you on a flight, but it should be packed in your checked luggage as the Nerf guns or any other guns may create a problem at the time of screening if kept with your carry-on luggage during the time of the flight.

The ask TSA Team, however, has never given a statement that stops you from taking a Nerf gun as your carry-on luggage, but the security team at the airport may prohibit you from carrying it on the plane if they find anything that makes it dangerous or inappropriate for the other passengers.

Rules Regarding Battery Guns/ Toy Guns:

Before moving into a flight you should make sure that you pack your stuff well to avoid any unbearable circumstances at the time of screening.

If the security staff at the airport finds anything that is harmful or violent, they can strictly prohibit you from taking that on the flight with you.

Here are some of the rules regarding battery guns and toy guns that need to be followed while packing the luggage for the airport.

TSA Rules for Toy Guns and Weapons

BB Guns: These guns are generally allowed to be carried with the check-in luggage but not in the carry-on luggage. But it is still recommended to first confirm with the airlines that you’ve booked whether they allow it or not.

Darts: Darts that are used to shoot the target with Nerf guns are generally allowed to be taken inside the flight, but they should be packed with the utmost care inside the checked-in luggage.

Foam Toys: Foam toys like darts and foam arrows are not allowed to be taken inside the flight with your carry-on luggage, but they can still be packed in your checked luggage and get directly transported to the place where you are going.

Battery Guns: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) may not allow you to carry a battery gun or a Nerf gun in your carry-on luggage. Still, you can take it along with you in your checked luggage, which will be kept away from you during your plane journey.

Are Nerf Guns allowed in planes? This is what ask TSA says:

askTSA is an organization that is made to facilitate the flight experience of the passengers during their flight.

The askTSA organization is a part of the Transportation Security Administration which answers all the queries of people regarding their plane journey and the questions that they have regarding their flight journey.

Also it answers the queries related to the type of material that people should carry while being on a plane journey.

The Ask TSA team has denied the passengers taking toy guns with them on the plane with their carry-on luggage; however, they can take them with them in their checked luggage.

“While these types of toys are generally permitted, we recommend that you pack them in your checked baggage. Squirt guns, Nerf guns, toys, swords or other items that resemble realistic firearms or weapons are prohibited.

We recommend emptying water guns, which must follow the 3-1-1 Liquids Rule. Replicas of explosives, such as hand grenades, are prohibited in checked or carry-on baggage.

TSA officers have the discretion to prohibit any item through the screening checkpoint if they believe it poses a security threat.”

TSA stated this on a website. Once, TSA answered that people can take toy guns or Nerf guns with them on the plane, but they will have to follow certain rules and regulations. These rules are as under:

  1. According to TSA, you can take Nerf guns or toy guns with you in your carry-on bags with certain special instructions and permissions.
  2. TSA has allowed people to take Nerf guns in their checked-in bags with their other luggage.
  3. Any toy with the shape of a weapon or any firearm is not allowed neither in the carry-on luggage nor in the checked luggage.
  4. TSA has stated strictly that only normal toy guns are allowed in checked luggage. Any toy that resembles replica explosives or grenades can create a mess at the time of screening at the airport.

Replica Explosives:

The team asked TSA has strictly prohibit the passengers from taking any such toy that resembles replica explosives or grenades while travelling on the flight.

Such toys are not allowed either in checked baggage or in carry-on luggage. TSA says that such toys can be used to hijack a plane, or they may be a real threat to the other passengers.

They recommend people not to bring such toys with them by any means while they’re travelling via an aeroplane.
