How to Make a Water Weenie a DIY Project

A Water Weenie is a long tube-shaped toy gun that inflates into a balloon-like structure when pressurized water is applied inside the tube.

Making of a Water Weenie Tube

Follow the below steps carefully and systematically to get a perfect water weenie for your kids.

Materials Required:

1. A plastic band/ long tube, 5 Ft. long for this you can use Gym Resistance Tube
2. A sharp knife/ cutter
3. A hose tube
4. A hose connector
5. A nozzle
6. Some creativity

Step 1: Take 5ft. long Band

The first step in the process of creating a water weenie is taking a plastic band, a bicycle tube or you can use Gym Resistance Tube which is at least 5 feet long. This plastic band is going to serve as the base of our water weenie.

Step 2: Cut The Edges/Straps:

The first thing that you have to do with the plastic band is to cut out the straps that you use to hold it from both ends.

We are doing this process with Gym Resistance Tube, which is easily available on the online platform, and it is easy to make a Water Weenie from Resistance Tube.

As we are not going to use these straps in our water weenie they are completely useless, and you can use a sharp knife or a paper cutter to cut them out.

Make sure that you perform this step carefully and only under adult supervision. Kids are advised not to take up this step on their own.

Step 3: Cut The Plastic Band Into Two Equal Pieces

The next step is to cut the entire plastic band from the centre into two halves, each 2.5 feet long. 

If you want to make your Water Weenie longer, you can cut it accordingly.

Step 4: Attach The Nozzle

Now, take one piece of the plastic band that you have got and attach a nozzle to its open end.

If you want to give the Water Weenie a gun type look you can also attach an Air Blow Gun instead of a nozzle to the cut end of the resistance tube.

Remember that this step is absolutely optional, and you can also enjoy playing with a water weenie if you do not attach a nozzle to it.

Step 5: Attach A Hose Pipe

Now remove the nozzle for the time being, as we are going to arrange it afterwards. Just at the same place where you have put the nozzle, that is, on the opening of the plastic band, attach a hose pipe with the help of a hose connector.

After you have connected the host pipe to the opening of the plastic band, start running water through the pipe into the band.

This step is a little difficult as, most of the time; people find it difficult to run water between the hose pipe and the plastic band.

So make sure you are extremely diligent while performing this step. If it shows successful bulging out like a balloon then your water weenie is almost complete. Look at the picture above for reference.

Step 6: Let The Entire Band Bulge Out

You have to wait for the entire plastic band to bulge out with water, just like a water balloon.

Once the plastic band is completely bulged out with water, you are all set to go with your water weenie.

Step 7: Put Back The Nozzle

Now remove the hose pipe, and you will find squirts of water running out of your water weenie.

You can hold the water by just pinching the mouth of the water weenie with the help of your two fingers.

If you wish, you can add a nozzle or a plastic tube to its mouth to make the water flow out in a definite shape and direction.

Step 8: Enjoy Playing With Your Water Weenie

Now you are all set to play with your water weenie. You can hang the large water weenie all around your neck and run squirts of water through the nozzle on your friends, just like the one shown above.
