Creating a fan with Popsicle Stick is a simple and enjoyable DIY craft that is perfect for kids and adults alike.

This easy project requires minimal materials and can be customized with different colors and decorations. Follow these step-by-step instructions to make your very own handmade fan!

Materials Needed:

  • Popsicle Stick (3 sticks)
  • Glue (hot glue or strong craft glue)
  • Colored paper or fabric
  • Scissors
  • Decorative items (stickers, markers, glitter, etc.)
  • Two soda bottle cap
  • Cotton string
  • One thin bamboo stick

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Arrange the Popsicle Sticks

Take two Popsicle Sticks and make a hole in the center using the pointed end of the scissors. The hole should be big enough to fit a thin bamboo stick through.

If you want to paint the fan blades a basic color, you can do this as well

Lay out the Popsicle Sticks in a ”+” -like formation, slightly overlapping each other to determine the shape and size of your fan.

Step 2: Glue the Base

Now take a bamboo stick and cut it in half if it is too long

Now apply glue between both the Popsicle Sticks and stick them to each other in a + shape

After sticking, insert the bamboo stick through the hole made in the center of both the Popsicle Sticks and stick it properly

Step 3: Cut and Attach the Fan Cover

Now take two soda bottles and make a hole in their center. This hole should be a little bigger than the thickness of the bamboo stick.

Cut a V-shaped portion on the edge of a soda bottle with the help of a cutter.

Take the other soda bottle cap which does not have a V shaped cut on it and attach it upside down to the fan blade as shown in the image above

Now take a little long cotton string and tie two nice knots on the bamboo stick left after the fan and bottle cap

Take the other bottle cap from the top and insert it inside the bamboo stick from the right side and take out the string from the V shaped cut and attach both these caps with glue.

Take another Popsicle Stick and apply glue on one of its corners and stick it to the corner side of the soda bottle cap on the back side of the fan.

Attach a round shaped plastic ring on the other side of the thread. Simply tie the string to the plastic ring.

Step 4: Decorate Your Fan (optional)

This is where you can get creative! Use markers, stickers, glitter, or other decorative materials to personalize your fan. You can add patterns, shapes, or even write your name to make it uniquely yours.

Step 5: Let It Dry and Use

Allow the glue and decorations to dry completely. Once dry, Rotate the fan blades anticlockwise with the help of your fingers. This will ensure that the string is wrapped around the bamboo stick.

Once the string is fully wrapped, hold the fan in one hand and pull the string towards you with the fingers of the other hand. The fan will start rotating.

Tips and Variations:

Use washi tape or patterned paper for a stylish touch.

Experiment with different numbers of sticks to adjust the size.

Conclusion

Making a fan with Popsicle Stick is an easy, fun, and creative activity that can be done at home or as a classroom craft.

Whether you use it to cool down on a warm day or simply as a decorative piece, this DIY fan is both functional and artistic. Gather your materials and start crafting your own beautiful hand fan today!
