How To Use The Printable

Using these cards is simple and needs very little setup. Children just need the printed sheet and their tiles.

Step 1: Choose a card for your child to build.

Younger kids may enjoy simpler designs like the Christmas stocking. Older kids can try more detailed builds like the Christmas angel.

Step 2: Look closely at the picture and count the shapes used.

Notice how many squares and triangles appear in each design. This step encourages careful observation before building begins.

Step 3: Use magnetic tiles to recreate the design shown on the card.

Encourage your child to match the colors as closely as possible. This builds focus and attention to visual detail.

Step 4: Answer the counting questions at the bottom of each card.

Count how many squares, triangles, and colors were used. Write the numbers in the small boxes provided.

Step 5: Stand back and admire the finished build.

Take a photo before taking the tiles apart. Kids often love seeing their holiday creation fully built and standing tall.

Why This Activity Is So Great For Kids

Building with magnetic tiles supports far more than shape recognition. It builds real early STEM thinking in a playful way.

Children practice identifying squares and triangles as they build each design. They also develop spatial reasoning as they connect pieces in three dimensions.

Counting the tiles used adds early numeracy practice to the activity. Matching colors also strengthens visual discrimination skills.

Best of all, kids feel proud completing a full holiday build. That sense of accomplishment makes STEM learning feel exciting and fun.

Perfect For Classrooms And Home

This printable fits wonderfully into many learning settings. It works well in STEM centers, homeschool lessons, or playtime at home.

Teachers can set these out as an independent building center during December. Students practice shape recognition while staying fully engaged.

Parents can use these cards for a screen free afternoon activity. They also make a great quiet option during holiday gatherings or travel.

One MagnaTiles card can lead to a full day of festive fun. Add a few more activities to round out your learning session.
