How to Make Gorgeous Melted Crayon Ornaments

Looking for a fun, creative, and surprisingly simple way to add a pop of personalized color to your Christmas tree this year?

It’s time to raid the art supplies! This craft uses a household staple crayons to create stunning, marbled ornaments that look like they came from a high end boutique.

It’s a magical process to watch and results in a unique decoration every single time.

What You’ll Need:

  • Clear glass ornaments
  • Crayons in your favorite colors
  • A crayon or pencil sharpener
  • A hairdryer
  • A heat safe dish or tray (to catch any drips and protect your work surface)
  • Ribbon for hanging

Step by Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prep Your Crayons

First, choose your color palette! Combining two or three complementary colors works best for a beautiful marbled effect.

Once you’ve selected your crayons, you’ll need to peel off the paper wrappers completely. Then, using your sharpener, create a small pile of crayon shavings. Collect the shavings in a small cup or bowl.

Step 2: Fill Your Ornament

Carefully remove the metal cap from the top of your clear ornament. Gently pour your colorful crayon shavings inside.

You don’t need to fill it up too much a small amount goes a long way. Once the shavings are inside, pop the cap back on.

Step 3: Let the Magic Happen!

This is where the transformation begins! Hold your ornament over your heat safe dish.

Turn your hairdryer on to a high heat setting and aim the hot air directly at the ornament. As the glass heats up, you will see the crayon shavings begin to melt.

Step 4: Swirl and Create

While applying heat, slowly and continuously rotate the ornament. Watch in amazement as the melted wax swirls around the inside, coating the surface and creating a vibrant, one of a kind marbled pattern. Continue rotating until the entire interior is covered in a beautiful design.

Step 5: Cool and Complete

Once you’re happy with the look, turn off the hairdryer and set the ornament aside to cool. The wax will harden very quickly.

Once it’s completely cool, your masterpiece is ready! Thread a beautiful ribbon through the top, and you have a stunning, custom made ornament ready to hang on the tree or give as a thoughtful, handmade gift.
