The holiday season is full of wrapping paper and ribbons, which means your little ones are probably itching to get their hands on a pair of scissors!
Instead of letting them loose on your expensive gift wrap, why not give them a purposeful activity that builds their fine motor skills? We are excited to share 4 Free Printable Christmas Scissor Skills Worksheets.
These A4 PDF templates are designed to help children master the art of cutting. From simple curves to complex outlines, these sheets offer a progression of difficulty that is perfect for preschoolers and early learners.
Why Practice Scissor Skills?
Cutting isn’t just about making confetti; it is a complex skill that helps develop:
- Hand-Eye Coordination: Watching the line while moving the hand.
- Bilateral Coordination: Using two hands at once (one to cut, one to turn the paper).
- Hand Strength: Opening and closing scissors builds the muscles needed for holding a pencil later on.
What’s Included in This Pack?
We have created four unique designs, ranging from beginner to advanced levels.
1. The Gingerbread Man (Beginner)
This is the perfect place to start. With wide, gentle curves and no sharp corners, the Gingerbread Man helps kids get comfortable with turning the paper as they cut.

- Bonus Idea: Once cut out, punch a hole in the top and turn him into a tree ornament!
2. The Christmas Gnomes (Intermediate)
Gnomes are a holiday favorite! This sheet features three separate gnomes with pointy hats. This challenges children to practice cutting “corners” stopping the scissors, turning the paper, and starting again to create a sharp point.

3. The Christmas Angel (Intermediate)
This beautiful angel features flowing wings and a dress. The lines are smooth but require a bit more precision to keep the shape looking perfect. It’s a great challenge for kids who have mastered the basics.

4. A Charlie Brown Christmas (Advanced)
Good grief, this one is cute! Featuring Charlie Brown and Snoopy with their iconic little tree, this design is the most detailed of the bunch. It’s perfect for older kids (Kindergarten or 1st Grade) who can navigate tighter turns and intricate details.

How to Use These Worksheets
- Print: Download the files below and print on standard A4 paper.
- Color First: Top Tip: Have your child color the pictures before they cut them out. It is much easier to color on a stable sheet of paper than a wiggly cutout!
- Cut: Using child safe blunt tip scissors, have your child carefully follow the dotted lines.
- Display: Glue the finished cutouts onto a piece of colored construction paper to make a holiday scene, or tape them to the fridge!
Safety Note: Always supervise young children when they are using scissors.
