Counting gold coins is every leprechaun’s favorite hobby and now your kids can join in the fun!
We are excited to share our St. Patrick’s Day Pot of Gold Counting Mats. This printable activity pack is designed to help toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners practice three essential math skills at once: Number Recognition, Counting, and Writing Numbers.
Whether you are a teacher setting up a March math center or a parent looking for a fun homeschool activity, these mats are a golden resource.
What’s Inside This Printable Pack?
We have created mats for numbers 1 through 10. For your convenience, the download includes two versions of every mat:

Full Color Version: Vibrant and ready to use immediately. Perfect for laminating.
Black & White Version: An ink saving option that doubles as a coloring page for your students.
Each mat features:
- A cheerful Leprechaun dancing by a rainbow.
- A large empty Pot of Gold (ready to be filled!).
- A “Trace the Number” box in the corner, showing the digit (e.g., “1”) and the word (e.g., “One”) with directional arrows for proper handwriting practice.
Bonus Item: We have also included a sheet of printable Gold Coins for you to cut out and use with the mats!
How to Set Up This Activity
Option A: The Reusable Math Center (Recommended)
Print: Print the Color versions of mats 1-10 and the sheet of gold coins.
Laminate: Run the mats and the coins through a laminator. This makes them durable and allows you to use dry erase markers.
Cut: Cut out the laminated gold coins.
Play: Have the child choose a mat (e.g., Number 5).
- Say it: “This is the number five.”
- Count it: Place 5 gold coins into the pot.
- Write it: Use a dry erase marker to trace the number and word in the corner.
- Wipe & Repeat: Clean the mat and pick a new number!
Option B: The “Make a Book” Craft
Print: Print the Black & White versions.
Color: Let your child color in the leprechaun, rainbow, and pot.
Paste: Cut out the paper gold coins (or use stickers/glitter!) and glue the correct amount onto each pot.
Bind: Staple the pages together to create a “My Book of Numbers” keepsake.
