Smartphone into a Magical 3D Hologram Projector

Get ready for an activity that blends science, art, and a little bit of magic! With just a few simple household items, you can create a stunning 3D hologram projector that makes images leap right off your smartphone screen and float in mid-air.

This is a fantastic project for kids and adults alike, perfect for a fun afternoon of crafting. Let’s bring your favorite characters and designs to life!

What You’ll Need:

  • A clear plastic bottle (or any piece of stiff, clear plastic like a report cover or an old CD case)
  • Scissors
  • Clear tape
  • A ruler and a marker (optional, but very helpful!)
  • A smartphone

Create a Mesmerizing 3D Hologram Projector for Your Smartphone!

Step-by-Step Instructions: Building Your Projector

Step 1: Create Your Plastic Panels

The projector is made of four identical clear panels that will form a pyramid.

  1. First, carefully cut a flat, smooth section from your plastic bottle.
  2. On this plastic sheet, you need to draw and cut out a trapezoid shape. A good size to start with is:
    • Top Edge: 1 cm
    • Bottom Edge: 6 cm
    • Height: 3.5 cm

Once you have your first perfect trapezoid, use it as a template to trace and cut out three more identical pieces. You should now have four clear plastic trapezoids.

    Step 2: Assemble the Pyramid

Now it’s time to put your pieces together.

    1. Lay your four trapezoid pieces on a flat surface, with their shorter edges facing inwards and their longer edges facing outwards.
    2. Carefully use small pieces of clear tape to connect the angled sides of the trapezoids. You are building a pyramid shape that is open at the top and bottom.
    3. Make sure the seams are taped securely but try to keep the tape as neat as possible for the best visual effect.

Step 3: Find the Perfect Hologram Animation

Your projector needs special content to work its magic. On your smartphone, go to a video platform like YouTube.

Search for “hologram pyramid video” or “3D hologram video for phone.” You will find thousands of animations specifically designed for this type of projector, featuring everything from dancing characters and animals to beautiful, glowing shapes.

Step 4: Let the Magic Begin!

This is the moment you’ve been waiting for.

For the best results, dim the lights in the room. Play your chosen hologram video on your smartphone.

Take your newly built plastic pyramid and place it upside down directly in the center of your phone’s screen.

Get down to eye level and look through the sides of the pyramid. You will see a vibrant, 3D image floating right in the middle!

You’ve successfully created an amazing illusion. Try out different videos and watch as all sorts of incredible animations come to life right before your eyes
