Educational Easter Activities Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt for Kindergarten & Elementary.

This Neighborhood Easter Scavenger Hunt is a brilliant, low prep way to celebrate the holiday while promoting community spirit and outdoor exercise. It transforms an entire street or neighborhood into a giant “I Spy” game where children search for 14 unique Easter-themed posters displayed in the windows of their neighbors.

Below is a detailed guide on how to organize this community wide activity and how to use these A4 printables to make learning fun for kids of all ages.

How the “House Number” System Works

The most unique feature of this scavenger hunt is the numbering system at the top of each poster. To ensure a variety of images throughout the neighborhood (and to avoid 20 houses in a row all hanging the same bunny!), the posters use a mathematical sequence.

The Rule: A family chooses the poster that contains the last two digits of their house number.

  • Example: if you live at 116 Main Street, you would look for the poster that has the number 16 at the top (The White Bunny poster).
  • Example: If you live at 54 Oak Lane, you would print the poster with 54 at the top (The Pink/Yellow Wavy Egg).

Because there are 14 different posters, the images repeat every 14 houses, ensuring that even on a short walk, a child can find every item on their list!

Meet the 14 Scavenger Hunt Posters

Each high resolution A4 poster features a vibrant, iconic Easter symbol:

  1. The Easter Basket: A woven basket overflowing with colorful eggs.
  2. The White Bunny: A cute rabbit holding a striped purple egg.
  3. The Carrot: A bright orange garden carrot with green leafy tops.
  4. The Tulip: A beautiful purple spring flower.
  5. The Baby Chick: A round, fluffy yellow chick.
  6. The Bag of Jelly Beans: A clear bag filled with rainbow-colored candies.
  7. The Chocolate Bunny: A classic solid-brown cocoa treat.
  8. The Yellow Peep: A marshmallow-style bunny peep.
  9. The Pink Heart Egg: An egg covered in tiny pink hearts.
  10. The Teal Polka-Dot Egg: A vibrant egg with purple and blue dots.
  11. The Green & Yellow Circle Egg: An egg with bold green stripes and dots.
  12. The Pink & Yellow Wavy Egg: An egg with bright psychedelic waves.
  13. The Red & Yellow Zig-Zag Egg: An egg with sharp geometric patterns.
  14. The Blue & Purple Striped Egg: An egg with elegant vertical lines.

How to Use This for Your Kids & Community

1. For Community Leaders (The Organizers)

  • Distribute the Links: Share the PDF link with your neighborhood Facebook group, HOA, or church group.
  • Print and Tape: Ask participants to print their assigned poster (based on their house number) and tape it to a street-facing window or a mailbox.
  • Durability: If displaying outside, suggest laminating the pages or placing them in a plastic sheet protector to keep them safe from spring rain.

2. For Parents (The Scavenge Day)

  • Print the Checklist: Print the A4 Checklist page (which includes two lists per sheet). Cut it down the middle.
  • Gear Up: Give your child a clipboard and a marker.
  • The Walk: Walk the neighborhood! As children spot an image in a window, they find the matching icon on their list and check the box.
  • Incorporate Math:
    • Toddlers: Practice counting each time you see any egg.
    • Grades 1-2: Keep a “tally” next to the images. At the end, ask: “Which image did we see the most?”
    • Grades 3+: Have them calculate the percentage of participating houses on the block.

3. For the “At Home” Version

If you prefer to stay in your own yard, simply hide the 14 posters in different rooms of the house or different corners of the backyard. It becomes a high-energy “Hide and Seek” game that doesn’t require any sugar!

Educational Benefits

Visual Discrimination: Kids must match the specific pattern of an egg in a window to the one on their paper.

Observation Skills: Encourages kids to pay attention to their surroundings and “I Spy” details.

Community Connection: Gives children a sense of belonging as they see their neighbors participating in the same game.
