Create A Word" Valentine’s Day Spelling Activity

How many words can you make from “BE MY VALENTINE”?

If you are looking for a fun, brain-teasing activity to challenge your students or kids this February, you have found it! We are sharing our Valentine’s Day “Create A Word” Spelling Pack.

This isn’t just a simple worksheet; it’s a hands on literacy game. We have included printable letter tiles so kids can physically move the letters around to discover new words. It’s perfect for building vocabulary, spelling skills, and phonemic awareness.

What’s Inside This Activity Pack?

This free download includes 3 essential pages formatted for A4 paper:

The Worksheet: A beautiful recording sheet where students can write down the words they find. It has numbered lines for up to 20 words (though you can definitely find more!).

The Letter Tiles: A sheet of cut out letters spelling “B-E-M-Y-V-A-L-E-N-T-I-N-E,” plus some blank stars for fun.

The Answer Key: Stuck? We have included a massive list of solutions categorized by 2, 3, 4, and 5+ letter words.

How to Play: Step-by-Step

This activity works best when kids can touch and move the letters.

Print & Cut: Give each student the “Letter Tiles” page. Have them cut out the individual squares.

Arrange: Ask them to line up the letters on their desk to spell “BE MY VALENTINE.”

Mix & Match: Now, the fun begins! Have them rearrange the letters to form smaller words.

  • Example: Move ‘T’, ‘E’, and ‘N’ together to make TEN.
  • Example: Move ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘M’, ‘E’ to make LIME.

Record: When they find a real word, they write it down on their worksheet.

Challenge: Set a timer for 10 minutes. Who can find the most words? Or, who can find the longest word?

Why Teachers Love This

  • Manipulatives: Moving the letter tiles helps visual and kinetic learners see word patterns they might miss just by looking at a piece of paper.
  • Differentiated: It works for all levels. Beginners can find simple words like “IT” or “AT,” while advanced students can hunt for “ENABLE” or “NATIVE.”
  • No Prep: Just print and go!
