Free Printable Valentine’s Day Tracing Worksheets for Preschoolers

Tracing is one of the most important first steps in learning how to write. Before children can form letters independently, they need to develop the fine motor control to follow a line and control a pencil.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, we have created a set of 8 Free Printable Tracing Worksheets to make handwriting practice fun and festive!

These A4 PDF templates are designed specifically for preschoolers and kindergarteners. Each sheet features a large holiday image to trace, followed by the word written on handwriting lines. This “picture to word” connection helps kids understand that the letters they are tracing have meaning.

What’s Included in This Bundle?

We have included 8 classic Valentine’s symbols to trace and color:

1. Teddy Bear

A cuddly bear holding a heart. Tracing his round ears and paws is great for practicing curves.

2. Cupid

The little angel of love with his bow and arrow. This design features more complex shapes, challenging kids to lift their pencil and start new lines.

3. Roses

A bouquet of three roses. The straight lines of the stems and the intricate petals offer a mix of tracing challenges.

4. Chocolates

A heart-shaped box filled with sweets. This is excellent for detail work as kids trace the individual candies inside the box.

5. Lovebirds

Two cute birds sitting on a branch. The feathers and leaves provide great practice for short, precise strokes.

6. Cupcake

A sweet treat with a heart on top. The swirls of the frosting help children practice fluid, continuous hand movements.

7. Envelope

A sealed love letter. This simple design focuses on straight lines and diagonals, which are foundational for writing letters like A, V, and W.

8. Balloon

A heart shaped balloon on a string. The long, wavy string is perfect for practicing the “flow” needed for handwriting.

How to Use These Worksheets Effectively

Finger Trace First: Before giving your child a pencil, have them trace the dotted lines with their index finger. This helps them learn the “path of motion” without the pressure of holding a tool.

Pencils & Crayons: Have them trace the picture and the word at the bottom using a pencil. Afterward, let them color in their drawing with crayons or markers!

Read Aloud: Point to the word at the bottom (e.g., “Cupid”) and read it together. Trace the letters one by one, saying the sound each letter makes.

Reusable Option: Slide these sheets into a plastic page protector and let your child use a dry erase marker. This way, they can practice over and over again!
