Here is a breakdown of the 5 unique activities and the skills they teach:


1. Help Cupid Count (Visual Addition)
Skill: Counting & Simple Addition (Pre-K to 1st Grade)
The Activity: Cupid has a bag of candy, but he needs help sorting it!
- Section A: Kids count visual groups of hearts, stars, and swirls to solve addition problems (e.g., 3 Hearts + 5 Stars = ?).
- Section B: Simple word problems. “Cupid has 5 red lollipops and 5 pink lollipops. How many total?”
2. Design a Valentine’s Card (Fractions & Area)
Skill: Fractions, Area, and Logic (3rd to 4th Grade)
The Activity: Students become designers! They must color a 20-square grid according to specific clues involving fractions.
- Clue: “Color 1/4 of the squares Red.” (They must calculate what 1/4 of 20 is).
- Clue: “Color 2/5 of the squares Pink.”
- This sheet also asks questions about the total area of the card.
3. Box of Chocolates (Arrays & Multiplication)
Skill: Arrays & Introduction to Multiplication (2nd to 3rd Grade)
The Activity: Who knew chocolate could teach math? This worksheet features heart-shaped boxes filled with truffles arranged in rows and columns.
- Students must identify the number of Rows and Columns.
- Then, they write the multiplication sentence (e.g., 3 rows x 4 columns = 12 chocolates).
4. The Valentine Shop (Money Math)
Skill: Money, Addition, Subtraction & Budgeting (3rd to 5th Grade)
The Activity: A real-world shopping simulation! Students are given a Price Menu (Rose $2.50, Teddy Bear $5.25, etc.) and a Budget of $20.00.
- Question 1: Calculate the total cost of two specific items.
- Question 2: Calculate the change received from a $20 bill.
- Question 3: Determine if they have enough money left over to buy a third item.
5. Conversation Hearts Poll (Data & Ratios)
Skill: Data Analysis, Ratios, and Mode (5th to 6th Grade)
The Activity: A 6th-grade class voted on their favorite candy heart colors. Students must analyze the data table provided.
- Task: Calculate the total number of students polled.
- Task: Find the Ratio of Orange votes to Purple votes (and simplify the fraction!).
- Task: Identify the Mode (the most common vote).
How to Use These in the Classroom
Station Rotation: Set up 5 tables with different sheets suited for different ability levels.
